Agriculture
Wyoming has over 30 million acres of agricultural land, consisting of 11,600 farms and ranches.
Wyoming has a rich agricultural heritage, and this heritage is still alive and well today!
Our agriculture curriculum is an excellent way for students to gain a deeper appreciation for the agricultural industry and gain an appreciation for where their food comes from, and how agriculture contributes to the prosperity of their communities.
With engaging lessons that teach students about land stewardship and highlight the stewardship practices of farmers and ranchers, students will be challenged to think about agriculture in new and exciting ways through scientific, cultural, and economic lenses to understand and appreciate the importance of agriculture in Wyoming.

Crops: Goods & Services
Students will identify the difference between wants and needs by identifying goods and services associated with Wyoming agriculture. They will learn how we use crops in our everyday lives, what careers are associated with farming, and the difference between goods and services.
From Parent to Offspring
Students will learn about genetics by making observations on living things. They will identify traits, or characteristics, of cattle that make them unique. Students will then use their observations to determine which offspring belong to which parents based on the characteristics of each breed of cattle. They will also identify variations of traits within a species.
Wyoming Predators
Students will learn about predators and how these animals can impact the ecosystem, ranchers and livestock, while understanding the importance of predators in nature. Students will discuss ways people can manage the threat of predation to their livestock.
Plant Detectives
Students will conduct an experiment to determine that plants require sunlight to grow successfully by producing their own food. Through the experiment, students will then understand that animals acquire energy from the sun (in the form of plants) in order to survive.
